Conclusion

You have taken a journey in cultural history to learn about a culture very different from your own. Reflect for a minute on what YOU had to do to finish this journey. You had to:

• Share with a group
• Take responsibility for your own task-completion
• Think creatively and perhaps even inventively
• Reflect upon and find the Powerful Words to use when describing and discussing ideas and ways of life that are very different from your own.

Ask yourself:

If you really could go back in time and meet Champlain, Phips or Elson, do you think you could make a difference?

What lessons or current events from the 21st Century might help you to make a difference? 

What tools, techniques and people-skills have you learned about in this unit that might be helpful to you in this journey to change your understanding of the past - and of the Wabanakis?

Lastly, what have you learned about assumptions, preconceptions and stereotyping that is valuable to you in YOUR world?  Are people and cultures only what they act like and look like?  Where should you look to find out more than the surface tells you? How can YOU avoid racist behavior and words?

Write about it. Talk about it. Draw about it. Think about it.
