A graduate of Middlebury College and Rutgers University, I have been a teacher and school librarian for over 33 years. I have been a classroom teacher of English, History, Literacy, Computer topics, Health and Human Sexuality; a grade level advisor, a magazine and drama club advisor, and a coach. Beginning in 1993, I coordinated PC and Mac computer labs while teaching English and computer topics. I was the Technology Department Head at Portledge School (LI) and at Chapin School (NYC), coordinating the computer and laptop programs, supporting curriculum mapping and website development, and guiding and training faculty and staff in the personal and classroom use of laptop and desktop computers.

I am currently teaching full time at Freeport (ME) Middle School, where my focus is 21st Century Literacy in grades 7-8 and support of faculty website development.  I am proud to be a member of the Wabanaki Planning Committee, a group of non-Native and Maliseet, MicMac, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot educators working to develop accurate, unbiased lessons in support of LD 291.

I have been awarded the 2004/05 Innovations Grant for Instruction by the Freeport School District. My teaching team has been awarded an ING Unsung Heroes grant. Both grants are being used to fund and develop a technology rich course of study focused upon the Freeport community. Included in the curriculum are the Wabanaki study lessons found on this site and lessons in Pre-Contact botany and technologies developed by the Wabanakis.

I have recently run workshops on Indian stereotypes, Wabanaki studies, Literacy topics and technology integration for MAMLE, ACTE, the Lausanne Laptop Institute, CAIS, AICE (American Institute for Creative Education) and the Maine Association of Science Teachers.
