Threaded discussions - online collaboration
Because we are a laptop school, technology is fully integrated into all
Literacy units. Technology skills are often developed through "reading
actitivies" (reading & following directions). Students will be
required to use correct file and folder naming and organization procedures
throughout the year; this will be the first instructional unit (one repeated
in every class!). Students are expected to backup essential
classwork files to the FMS server.
NoteShare, an MLTI application, will be used extensively
in Literacy as both an interactive "text" for several units
and a "interactive discussion board" to support collaborative
projects.
All students will be required to complete at least the following technology
activities in Literacy this year:
- film and edit a documentary or dramatic segment;
- create a podcast in GarageBand;
- scan into the laptop, manipulate the scanned image (reformat, resizie,
crop, filter, animate);
- take, download and manipultate still photographs;
- create an iMovie and a slideshow presentation (Keynote or Powerpoint);
- upload to a Wiki, edit and format online text;
- participate in a focused online discussion using NoteShare;
- use Advanced keyword searching (Google or other engine);
- submit written work to NoteShare, revise based upon teacher and peer
editing;
- create a poster in Pages;
- use Garmen GPS to pinpoint a location, map this to GoogleEarth (or
other application);
- keyboard (Word, Pages, or AW);
- create a Harvard outline;
- use online interactive tools to create an essay outline, a rubric,
and a bibliography;
- create a graphical web;
- annotate a full-page image using Word tools;
- connect the laptop to an LCD projector;
- use a key drive for file sharing.
