Tern
Just Enough HTML -
and a little CSS
In this 1-day workshop participants learn the rudiments of HTML and CSS. Working entirely in code, each will build a two page website containing:
- CSS style definitions for rollover hyperlink effects, frame styles, and text styles
- formatted text with style and font definitions
- graphics
- lists
- a table
- a navigation bar
- an e-mail link
- internal and external hyperlinks
- horizontal rules
- a cool JavaScript
Layout and good design principles will be discussed. Participants should be able to keyboard competently, save and organize files, and have some familiarity with Internet searching. Each should come to the workshop with an idea for a website. Least Tern will host completed sites for up to six months or the current school year.
"Break out sessions" will focus upon:
- Copyright considerations
- What to do with a completed website
- Why HTML? "Quick ways" to do the same thing - advantages and disadvantages to other tools
- Using HTML in blogs and other free communication sites
- Online hosting sites for teachers - some demos
