Walk-Through Technology Integration Training
We have designed an on-site training environment especially for those teachers who "slip through the cracks" of other professional development experiences. This happens to those teachers who are Reluctant to explore new technologies and teaching methods, generally for very sound reasons. This happens to those teachers who are already Energized and have explored sufficiently on their own to be beyond the scope of basic and content-specific workshops. Our Walk-Throughs focus upon the needs of these two groups.
What is a Walk-Through?
The term "walk-through" generally applies to the initial on-site consultation of an outsourced engineering or networking company. Its purpose is to define and measure the existing situation, become acquainted with the site and its needs and with the management and implementation team in place. Most walk-throughs result in a prospectus defining the terms, limits, cost and timetable of work to be done. We have applied this overall concept to our training model. Both the extended timetable and the foundation in professionalism, collaboration and goal-directed process that it embodies make the walk-through model a valuable, if little-seen, one for professional development.
- For the Energized Teacher, a Walk-Through with Least Tern provides a guided introduction to new instructional strategies and to the tools that make integration ideas come to life in the classroom.
- For the Reluctant Teacher, a Walk-Through with Least Tern provides patient, guided technology instruction and results in the development of curriculum and teaching strategies that can be used immediately in the classroom.
- For all Teachers, a Walk-Through with Least Tern focuses upon what the teacher wants to do and to learn. Walk-Throughs build confidence, skill and a desire to learn more about technology integration. Our support is on-going and our won teaching strategies are based upon our own experience in the technology enriched classroom.
- For the School, a Walk-Through with Least Tern is a commitment to on-site, on-going professional development for technology integration.
How Does It Work?
Walk-Through training works best with individual teachers or a small group of teachers sharing a curriculum or grade level. Training has six components that will be spread over up to a month of time:
- Definition - An extended morning or afternoon session with Least Tern to define the needs of the teachers and the goals of the training.
- Instruction - Intensive tools and methods training to build the skills necessary to meet the goals.
- Development - Collaborative creation of curriculum, lessons or projects that can be implemented immediately, guided by Least Tern both on-site and on-line.
- Implementation - The classroom experience is mentored and monitored by Least Tern.
- Assessment - Teacher and student learning and outcomes are assessed by the teachers and Least Tern; concrete plans for follow-up are developed.
- Support - Least Tern provides continuing support for trainees via web-based tools, phone and e-mail at no fee for the remainder of the school year.
What Does It Cost?
All fees are based upon a Prospectus, which encompasses estimated hours and the specific needs of the school or group. The Prospectus will be developed after the Definition phase has been completed and will be negotiable. The Sample fees for a Reluctant Teacher Group:
Definition 3 hours - fixed fee $225Instruction 1 full day (7+ hours), homework and practice $600Development 1 full day of collaboration, online refinement and testing of project $600Implementation Generally 3 sessions in class/teacher $200 /dayAssessment 2 hours, online follow-up and collaboration $225
